FROM MCHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE:
CRYSTAL LAKE — The McHenry County College Speech Department will host “Acting Up: A Performance Jam,” a showcase of original scripts by MCC alum Lauryn Lugo, of Lake in the Hills, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4 in MCC’s Black Box Theatre in Room D167.
The showcase will be a mixture of performance styles, including acting and interpretation of all genres – drama, stories, and poetry – by solo and duo performers. Highlights will include Lugo’s solo performance “No Laughing Matter.” This national award-winning story is about a female stand-up comic who was raped and her attempts to cope with the trauma through humor. Also included are performances of “Little Toy Guns,” an exploration of the aftermath of a school shooting and “Switch,” in which a husband and wife wake up as themselves in each other’s bodies.
Admission is $5 per person. The college is located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake. For more information, contact Bonnie Gabel, speech instructor, at (815) 455-8684.
